Independent research into structural disruption and how organisations and senior people respond
The Pattern Recognition System (PRS) is my continuing research operation, established in August 2026 to investigate the structural disruption bearing down on large and complex organisations and the senior people within them.
Its purpose is not to report the news. It is to recognise emerging patterns in how organisations, institutions and individuals are responding to a changing world.
The research spans technology and AI, geopolitics, regulation, markets, ownership, infrastructure, labour, governance and organisational restructuring.
Particular attention is given to changes in power, authority, expertise, dependency and control.
Why this system became necessary
My work on The Collapsing Equilibrium exposed a wider problem.
The territory executives and senior experts need to understand is expanding dramatically. Technology, geopolitics, regulation, markets and institutional power are increasingly interconnected. Developments far beyond an organisation’s traditional field of attention can rapidly change its strategic options, dependencies and internal distribution of authority.
Keeping up with developments within a particular industry or professional discipline is no longer sufficient. Neither is relying exclusively on established research, internal reporting or the questions we already know to ask AI.
Understanding this changing terrain requires a broader, more systematic approach to observing developments, recognising connections and challenging established interpretations.
The Pattern Recognition System was built to meet that need.
Initially developed to extend my own Domain Mastery and underpin my private work with executives and senior experts, it now also provides the research foundation for ExecutiveDM.
How the research works
PRS combines systematic, large-scale AI research with independent human judgement.
Multiple AI models conduct daily scans, following different research trajectories to identify potentially significant developments. These are consolidated, checked against credible sources and recorded in a permanent, longitudinal archive.
The system prioritises original announcements, regulatory decisions, institutional documents and other primary evidence where available, supplemented by credible original reporting.
Rather than beginning with established trends or published interpretations, PRS works from individual events towards emerging patterns.
Selected signals are investigated further, using independent AI analysis to explore competing explanations, organisational mechanisms and unresolved questions.
The research currently captures approximately 400 signals per month.
Periodically, these accumulated observations are examined together to identify connections between developments that might otherwise appear unrelated.
Independent by design
PRS is independently directed. It is not commissioned to support a corporate agenda, validate a predetermined conclusion or promote a particular technology or solution.
It is also independent of any individual AI provider. Different models contribute to discovery, investigation and synthesis, while the research archive and methodology remain under my control.
My own experience and intellectual framework inform the questions being explored. They do not determine what the evidence must reveal.
Patterns remain open to challenge, revision and contradiction as further evidence emerges.
The objective is original thinking grounded in observation, not the repetition of established narratives.
Research record
PRS began in August 2026. Each month produces a new body of evidence from which emerging patterns can be identified and investigated.
August 2026
393 individual signals produced six emerging patterns:
- The Confidence Gradient
- The Expert Succession Bypass
- Infrastructure Repriced as Strategic Chokepoint
- The Routing Layer Captures What the Model Cannot
- AI Enters the Activist Playbook
- The Compensation Concentration Signal
September 2026
410 individual signals produced eight emerging patterns:
- The Developer Cannot See What Its Agents Did
- Control Moves Outside the Agent, and Attackers Gain the Same Speed
- From Contract to Ownership: The Control Spectrum Over Scarce Dependencies
- The State Takes Control Without Taking Title
- Public Authority Reclaims the Physical Footprint of AI
- Losing the Chair Without Losing the Power
- Expertise Moves From Doing to Directing, and Some Experts Defend Their Ground
- Where AI Authority Should Sit: Absorption Versus Rebuild
These are research observations and developing hypotheses, not settled conclusions or predictions.
The record will continue to grow as new evidence accumulates and earlier patterns are tested against subsequent developments.
Putting the research to work
PRS underpins my professional work with executives and senior experts navigating structural disruption.
ExecutiveDM provides selective access to emerging patterns and developed intelligence, structured for incorporation into the recipient’s own AI-supported deliberations (Explore ExecutiveDM).
Private Work combines this external intelligence with direct engagement on the individual’s organisational circumstances, judgement challenges and strategic objectives (Explore Private Work).
